The sequence starts with draining the pool and chipping out the old plaster back to the gunite shell (or at minimum roughing it up mechanically). Any structural repairs, plumbing pass-through resealing, and skimmer or main-drain work gets done at this stage - the pool is only empty once. From there we apply a bond coat, install the chosen finish, and cure it under water while the pool refills. Modern quartz-aggregate and pebble finishes carry longer-lasting warranties than standard white plaster, hide chemistry variation better, and give the pool a distinct color feel that plaster alone can't hit. Waterline tile is often replaced at the same visit since it's already exposed by the drain.
